Lerm, R.E., Ehlers Smith, D.A., Thompson, D.I. and Downs, C.T., 2023 Human infrastructure, surface water and tree cover are important drivers of bird diversity across a savanna-protected area‑mosaic landscape. (REPORT - SABAP2) , Landscape Ecology
Protected areas are important in mitigating threats to biodiversity, including land conversion. Some of the largest protected areas are located in biodiverse savanna systems where a mosaic of landuses exist beyond their borders. 2019 SABAP2/BirdMap Protocol (RESOURCE GUIDE - BIRDMAP)
Southern African Bird Atlas Project (SABAP): The Protocol Explained. The atlas protocol is a survey protocol, designed to record the presence of as many bird species as possible within a defined area. The project allows for two types of surveys (cards) to be submitted – Full Protocol and Ad-hoc Protocol. Full Protocol card: The atlaser fully complied with the protocol rules (set out below).
